The new season of Kaiju No. 8 finally has a release date alongside more info.
The recent Jump Festa 2025 event revealed that the second season of Naoya Matsumoto’s Kaiju No. 8 premieres next year in July 2025 as reported by Anime News Network. The sequel will be streamed through Crunchyroll and as previously announced, Kōki Uchiyama (Buddy Daddies) will be voicing Gen Harumi, who will be making his appearance in the upcoming season.
A new visual was also revealed through the official X account for the anime.
Not only that, but a trailer of the anime’s compilation film of the first season announced previously was shown at the event as well. It will hit theaters in Japan on March 28, 2025 together with a new original episode titled “Hoshino’s Day Off.” The film will be screened “worldwide” based on the event.
Staff from the first season will be working on the new episode including Yūto Tsukuda (Food Wars!: Shokugeki no Soma manga author), who will be writing for the episode and Yuichiro Kido (Dr. Stone) who is in charge of writing the scripts.
The anime-exclusive story will feature Reno and Hoshina on a day off. Reno senses something peculiar with Hoshina and follows him together with Iharu.

The first season premiered on April 13 earlier this year and ran for 12 episodes with Crunchyroll streaming the anime. Animation production was handled by Production I.G and kaiju designs and illustrations were done by Studio Khara.
The author of the manga Naoya Matsumoto launched the manga in July 2020 through Shueisha’s Shonen Jump Plus website.
The manga is released physically and digitally in English by Viz Media and describes the story:
Kafka hopes to one day keep his pact with his childhood friend Mina to join the Japan Defense Force and fight by her side. But while she’s out neutralizing kaiju as Third Division captain, Kafka is stuck cleaning up the aftermath of her battles. When a sudden rule change makes Kafka eligible for the Defense Force, he decides to try out for the squad once more. There’s just one problem—he’s made the Defense Force’s neutralization list under the code name Kaiju No. 8.
