With a Gundam live-action movie in the works, fans will be pleased to have some more additions to the beloved mecha franchise.
Anime Mojo reported that director Mitsuo Fukuda announced a new Mobile Suit Gundam project during a special screening of Mobile Suit Gundam SEED Freedom which took place in Japan on Friday. According to the official X account of Mobile Suit Gundam SEED Freedom, the new project is titled Mobile Suit Gundam SEED Freedom Zero.
It’s also confirmed that it will serve as a prequel to the recently released Mobile Suit Gundam SEED Freedom that screened in theaters earlier this year in January. Moreover, the recently announced prequel will be a sequel to the Mobile Suit Gundam SEED Destiny television series which came out in 2004.
More info from Anime News Network detailed that Fukuda appeared together with producer Hisakazu Naka and voice actor of Kira Yamato, Sōichirō Hoshi, during a stage greeting for the commemorative screening of Mobile Suit Gundam SEED Freedom. It was also revealed that during the planning process of the aforementioned film, screenwriter Chiaki Morosawa and Shigeru Morita wrote the scenario for Mobile Suit Gundam SEED Freedom Zero. Fukuda also said that the script for the new project was finished 20 years ago.
He also added that Mobile Suit Gundam SEED Freedom Zero was originally set to be an OVA, but Fukuda hasn’t made a decision yet. Until now, the medium for the new Gundam project is still unknown.
