Takopi’s Original Sin is a short running manga with a story that tugged at the heartstrings of many readers. An anime adaptation has already been planned and more new information has just been confirmed.
Anime News Network reported that the main cast and staff of Takopi’s Original Sin anime based on a manga written and illustrated by Taizan 5 has been revealed at the Jump Festa 2025 event. The anime will also be released in 2025.
TBS anime’s official YouTube channel uploaded the main preview video.
Kurumi Mamiya (Ghost Stories) will be voicing Takopi with Reina Ueda (My Happy Marriage) voicing Shizuka Kuze.
Dr. Stone director Shinya Iino will be directing the anime and is responsible for series composition while Keita Nagahara (A Silent Voice key animator) is designing the characters. Animation studio Enishiya will be producing the anime.
The manga is licensed by VIZ Media and describes the story as such:
Deceptively cute alien Takopi lands on earth and meets a depressed earthling, Shizuka. Determined to make her smile, Takopi learns quickly that time travel can’t heal all wounds.
The manga was released in Shueisa’s Shonen Jump Plus service in December 2021 and concluded its short run in March 2022. The second and final compiled book was then published in April 2022 and is now available in English on Shueisha’s Manga Plus.
Many nominations were also received for the manga with such awards including the 16th Manga Taisho Awards and the 27th Annual Tezuka Osamu Cultural Prizes in 2023. In 2022, the manga received a Manga Kingdom Tottori award at the 51st Japan Cartoonists Association Awards and also ranked third place in the Kono Manga ga Sugoi! (This Manga is Amazing!) guidebook’s top 20 manga targeted for the male demographic in the same year.
