Despite the litany of negative reviews Captain America: Brave New World faces, it seems to be doing decently well as a Marvel flick at the box office. The film has beat projections, garnering $100 million in the span of just four days.
As stated by Deadline, the B- ComScore MCU film still manages to pull people to the theaters during holiday weekends, marking the fourth time MCU flicks have taken the top spot during Presidents Day weekend. Based on current metrics on Box Office Mojo, we’d be surprised if it doesn’t manage to surpass its break-even point of around $425 million, as it stands it sits at $192.4 million.
Unfortunately for Marvel, Captain America: Brave New World isn’t as loved as previous outings with critics, though of note, audience-wise, they see it more favorably, based on Rotten Tomatoes. As such, while many will still see the film, plenty will steer clear due to press reviews.
In our Captain America: Brave New World review, we said: “Marvel’s reluctance to change up its formula while there is still a semblance of goodwill banked with general audiences is starting to bite it in the rear. While for now Marvel still holds its position as the top dog when it comes to superhero franchises, Brave New World is the big wobble that may just leave Marvel’s crown vulnerable and within reach as DC’s fresh start comes nipping at its heels.“
Brave New World is theaters.
