It’s pretty weird and rare to see a sequel announcement of an anime that’s currently releasing new episodes.
While the second season of Blue Lock is still ongoing, AnimeMojo reported that the sports-themed soccer anime will have a third season. This announcement is unofficial, but publishing company Kodansha has approved of the third season which sources suggest will be handled by the current season’s animation studio, 8bit.
Blue Lock is a popular soccer Japanese manga written by Muneyuki Kaneshiro and illustrated by Yusuke Nomura. An anime adaptation helmed by 8bit first hit television in October 2022 and is followed by a movie adaptation based on the Episode Nagi spin-off manga released in April this year. Currently, a second season also titled Blue Lock vs. U-20 Japan has an episode count of 14 episodes and just premiered last month in October.
While the first season was well received by many anime fans, the second season is currently at a rough start as most viewers described the show as a PowerPoint slide presentation.
It genuinely does raise concerns of whether or not a third season in the Blue Lock anime series will have proper animation and great production values. Hopefully, production for a third season will halt for a decent amount of time. After the second season is completed, the animators should catch a break and pray the production committee won’t be too greedy next time.
