As of late, film companies have started taking IPs that have entered public domain and twisting them into horror films. Now, it’s Aladdin’s turn as the Empire Studios, Every Entertainment, and 8th Law Pictures join forces to bring us Aladdin: The Monkey’s Paw.
Filming kicks off in the UK later this year, according to Deadline. Starring Nick Sagar, Ricky Norwood, Montana Manning, and Bradley Stryker, who also takes up the director role, the flick sees Aladdin, a modern-day Londoner inheriting a monkey’s paw. Alongside Sagar and Stryker, Charley McDougall, who also inks the screenplay, and Jamie McLeod-Ross take up producer roles.
The film’s synopsis is: A modern-day Londoner, Aladdin, inherits an ancient monkey’s paw believed to grant wishes, only to discover that every desire comes at a soul-crushing price. As those around him fall victim to its curse, he must confront a growing evil — and the demonic force that feeds on every wish made.
It will likely be a while before we hear much on the film’s progress as filming is slated to kick off in May.
