Sandwiched between announcement trailers and high-profile ceremonies, many of The Game Awards’ categories were showcased in a rapid-fire. While the likes of Baldur’s Gate 3 won many awards, with the team giving speeches for all the high-profile ones, those that won only a single award — or no awards like Spider-Man 2 — were usually left out.
Since the three-hour show ended earlier this month, IGN reached out to said winners, wanting to get a speech that simply didn’t happen. The article included statements from Sea of Stars Game Director Thierry Boulanger thanking the studio’s partners, explaining how the game was very personal to him, and that the studio is privileged to be able to do what the team loves.
Elsewhere, IGN touched bases with Street Fighter 6’s Takayuki Nakayama and Shuhei Matsumoto for their takes on the legacy fighter winning Best Fighting Game. Nakayama shared his gratitude toward the players and its dev team, while also praising the other contenders, saying they are “amazing and shine brilliantly,” and with the success under its belt, he’s promising that it will not remain complacent and the dev will continue to improve the game. Similarly, Matsumoto expressed his gratitude toward the dev team and promises that the team’s gonna make SF6 “more exciting” for players.
Meanwhile, Larian Studios’ Swen Vincke took to Twitter to share his thoughts summed up into 16 posts, as while BG3 won a ton of awards, that doesn’t mean he was exempt from a 30-second speech limit. This limit may soften next year as even creator and host Geoff Keighley acknowledged the shortness of the acceptance speeches.
