While a bit of an uncomfortable play for some, Spec Ops: The Line is a rather important game of its generation, and now, it’s a little bit harder to play, especially on PC. The 2012 story-rich war shooter sought to “challenge players’ morality.”
Wario64 on Twitter spotted the delisting but noted that it’s still weirdly available on other storefronts, such as GOG and Xbox. While delistings are commonplace due to licensing issues and overall support being too much to bear, it does, however, seem weird when the game reigns as so culturally significant, and the developer nor publisher 2K gave any warnings.

Spec Ops: The Line, developed by Dutch studio Yager, saw the player survive a part of war-torn Dubai. Most notably, it’s known for its infamous white phosphorus scene, leading to a more critical lens when it came to video games based on modern conflicts. Right now, the game still remains on sale through PC sellers like GOG and on the Xbox store itself.
Some hope this might be a backwards way of revealing a remaster or remake, but we highly doubt that. Regardless, Smash Jump has reached out to Yager and will update the article as soon as we hear back.
