After mysteriously getting delisted on Steam, Spec Ops: The Line publisher 2K Games has addressed the issue and it looks rather grim for those who might still be interested in the title. The respected 2012 shooter doesn’t seem to be coming back.
In a statement to IGN, it states that the game is running into expiring licenses, and that is why it’s getting scrubbed from online sellers. The publisher didn’t specify what licenses are expiring, but it does have some rather well-known songs, including Jimi Hendrix’s Star Spangled Banner.
Since the delisting on Steam, other platforms have stopped selling the game, too, such as Fanatical, Gamesplanet, Nuuvem, and Xbox. So far, GOG is the only seller that still carries the game, but with it at a steep discount, we can’t help but feel like it’s just trying to clean house before the game is officially gone.
It’s worth pointing out, those who already have the game can still download and play it without any issues. It capped its message off with a “thank you” to the community and how it looks forward to bringing “more offerings from our label throughout this year and beyond.”
Spec Ops: The Line will no longer be available on online storefronts, as several partnership licenses related to the game are expiring.
Players who have purchased the game can still download and play the game uninterrupted. 2K would like to thank our community of players who have supported the game, and we look forward to bringing you more offerings from our label throughout this year and beyond.
