Game Science’s Black Myth: Wukong appears to be the catalyst for Chinese marketplaces selling out of PlayStation 5 consoles. The book-to-game adaptation has also supposedly caused more people who weren’t gamers to get invested in gaming.
Industry consultant Daniel Camilo took to X after spotting a surge in PS5 sales in the country. Sure, the console is popular, but this surge seemed to align closer to the release of the game, which has a lot of ties to the country, not just due to Game Science being a Chinese developer, but also the fact it’s directly an adaptation of the popular book, Journey to the West.
Black Myth: Wukong has proven to be a rousing success with anywhere from one to two million concurrent players on Steam alone. Meanwhile, the game, which hasn’t even been out for a week, has already sold 10 million copies. Considering the success, we’re sure the dev is loving the positive reception to its larger scale project.
