Larian Studios founder Swen Vincke has confirmed that Baldur’s Gate 3 is unlikely to arrive on Game Pass any time soon. This comes after the game shadow-dropped on Xbox the same day as The Game Awards.
Speaking to IGN as part of a lengthy, spoiler-addled interview, the founder explained that the team’s always wanted to shy away from the service and called it a bit of a “sensitive question.” Largely, Larian is a business, and as a business, it needs to make money to continue its operation, adding the game to a service like Game Pass would evidently lose it money. He also believes its product is fairly priced for the quality it output.
The game itself is lauded as a masterpiece by both internal staff here at Smash Jump and outside sources, like The Game Awards and other review outlets. While some will no doubt be a little disappointed, it’s understandable. In the end, BG3 doesn’t need Game Pass for players to know about it. If they are RPG fans or looking at getting into the genre, they’ve probably already eyed Larian’s GOTY-winning RPG.
“We made a big game, so I think there’s a fair price to be paid for that, and I think that that is okay. We don’t charge you any micro-transactions on top of it, so you get what you pay for. Upfront it’s a big meaty game. So I think that should be able to exist as it is. This is what allows us to continue making other games.”
