The Nintendo Switch 2 reveal may just be around the corner. The launch of the console is also reportedly closer than we may think.
Leaker “Nate the Hate” claimed on his podcast that Nintendo will reveal the Switch 2 this Thursday, 16 January, in a hardware-oriented showcase. A follow-up software launch reveal is claimed to be coming in February. Industry insiders Tom Warren and VGC have corroborated the reveal date.
Nate the Hate further revealed that the Switch 2 could launch in May or June 2025. The leaker teased several new IPs that could release alongside the Switch 2, including a new Mario Kart followed by a 3D Mario in holiday 2025. Other games reportedly coming to the Switch 2 include Assassin’s Creed Mirage, Final Fantasy 7 Remake, and Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater. Metroid Prime 4 was also teased as a potential cross-gen release on the Switch and its successor, while Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth is rumored to be coming to the Switch 2 in 2026.
Switch 2 rumors have been flooding the gaming world recently. Accessory maker Genki showed up at CES 2025 with a mockup of the Switch 2 handheld. Leaked photos quickly trended on social media. Nintendo broke silence over these leaks claiming the photos were not official. Nonetheless, IGN reported that Nintendo allegedly “sent lawyers” to Genki to investigate confidentiality breaches, although to no effect since the accessory maker did not sign a Non-Disclosure Agreement beforehand.
The Nintendo Switch 2 is the most anticipated console release of recent times. The leaks and rumors have just fueled expectations for what Nintendo can come up with next. In normal fashion, we still expect Nintendo to “do their thing” and surprise us.
