After players were treated to the idyllic Shin-Shibuya, NetEase, the developer behind Marvel Rivals, has decided to showcase a new level: the Spider-Islands of Tokyo 2099.
This new map was revealed via the Marvel Rivals YouTube channel and comes shortly after the end of the game’s closed alpha testing.
In the description for the map, the YouTube channel hints at a potential new character coming with the addition of this map, Spider-Zero. In the comics, Spider-Zero helped care for the Web of Life and Destiny, a way for characters to traverse the multiverse. The map’s subtitle, Journey into Life and Destiny, suggests a similar theme.
Another character seemingly hinted at is Psylocke, given the pink butterfly being chased by spiders at the end. Many fans will recognize this symbolism as Psylocke’s calling card.
Marvel Rivals is set to return with a closed beta in July. This beta will be available on Steam, PS5, and Xbox Series X|S for players who are lucky enough to get invited. After the high success of the closed alpha, it will be interesting to see if Marvel Rivals can live up to the hype surrounding it as it goes into beta.
