After being shut down by Xbox earlier this year, acclaimed game studio Tango Gameworks is rising from the ashes thanks to its new parent, Krafton. The acquisition does include its most recent IP, Hi-Fi Rush.
As revealed in a recent press release (via VGC), the South Korean studio, which also spearheads PUBG Studios and Striking Distance, marks this as its first significant investment into the Japanese game market. Unfortunately, it doesn’t specify whether the Japanese game dev is also bringing its other IPs — The Evil Within and Ghostwire: Tokyo — with it to its new home.
This is fantastic news for fans who were heartbroken at the bizarre decision to shutter the studio that had a proven track record of well-loved games. Following the success of its rhythm-based action adventure, it was even raring to produce a Hi-Fi Rush sequel, which is now more likely than ever as Krafton is allowing the studio to build the IP.
In a bitter comment following the closure, Xbox exec Matt Booty, in a perfectly tone-deaf way, declared the American game maker needed more indie games to nab it awards and prestige.
