Indiana Jones and the Great Circle has taken the gaming world by storm, so much so that Disney reportedly wants more Indy stories. We can’t blame them, since we absolutely loved Indy’s newest globe-trotting adventure.
In an episode of the Xbox Two podcast, Windows Central journalist Jez Corden claimed he’s “heard that Disney picked up the phone and wants more Indiana Jones.” This claim comes after Lucasfilm Games Vice President and General Manager Douglas Reilly revealed earlier this month to Variety that “there’s a lot of space in between the films where we could tell more and more Indiana Jones stories that I think would be super interesting.” Harrison Ford himself also praised the Great Circle in a surprise appearance at the 2024 The Game Awards ceremony.
While we don’t exactly know the sale figures underpinning the Great Circle’s success as it still is very early after release, there are nonetheless some good indications of its performance. Circana analyst Mat Piscatella revealed that Indiana Jones and the Great Circle was the second best-selling game in its first full release week in North America, trailing only Call of Duty: Black Ops 6, despite being available on Xbox Game Pass at launch. We will get a better picture of this success in 2025 as Indiana Jones and the Great Circle is confirmed to launch on PS5 sometime this spring.
In the meantime, Indy fans who already got their hands on the title on the Xbox Series X|S and PC can look forward to more adventures even after the game’s completion. The Order of Giants is the post-launch story DLC that is teased by developers MachineGames. While we don’t yet have a release date for the DLC, lead narrative designer Tommy Tordsson Björk revealed one detail about the Order of the Giants for Game Rant:
The only thing I can say there is that we will explore some of the myths that you learn about in the Vatican and find out more about the hidden history of Rome. It’s going to be an exciting adventure worthy of Indy!
While we wait for further DLC news, it’s tough not to get excited about the future prospects for the franchise. In our review, Adrian Cozmuta said: “Indiana Jones and the Great Circle is a masterclass in faithfully adapting and elevating a beloved franchise. The title impresses with its first-person exploration and immersion, set pieces, level design, storytelling, and presentation. However, enemy AI inconsistencies, the lack of manual saves, and occasional performance mishaps leave just a few dents into this otherwise engrossing experience.”
Critical acclaim alongside very promising early sales and reported Disney interest to expand the franchise bode well for the future of Indy games. With the recent movie retirement of Ford’s Indiana Jones, it is time for digital Indy to pick up the legendary hat and continue the legacy.
