The 3v3 free-to-play shooter, Spectre Divide shuts down only two weeks after the conclusion of Season 1. There was optimism during the first week, but a lack of active players led to funding drying up.
In a statement on its website, CEO Nate Mitchell notes the team is proud of what it’s made, but with the “tough spot” the industry is in, it simply can’t keeping pouring money into the project. The studio even sought a publisher, additional investment, and acquisition opportunities to keep going, but none panned out.
“We pursued every avenue to keep going, including finding a publisher, additional investment, and/or an acquisition. In the end, we weren’t able to make it work. The industry is in a tough spot right now.”
Spectre Divide was a free-to-play tactical shooter with a fresh art style and unique concept of the player controlling two bodies. The studio took the issues raised by the community and started fixing the game up, but clearly that wasn’t enough. The studio, Mountaintop, itself also appears to be shutting down, as well.
