Among the casualties in the gaming industry last year, Saints Row developer Volition closed up shop after three decades of service, now former staffers are forming a studio. The silver lining, though, it’s given people experience to know how to start their own thing up.
Shapeshifter Games popped up on LinkedIn, touting itself as a co-development studio founded by former Volition staff. Its broader goal is to “create a more sustainable environment for developers,” with a focus on AAA game development. As TechRaptor reports, there are at least six familiar faces from the shutter studio alongside one former Ascendant Studios staffer.
Within its AAA game development space, it focuses on open worlds, Unreal Engine 5, and console development. Apparently, it’s already working with inXile Entertainment on its first-person action RPG, Clockwork Revolution, which is published by Xbox Game Studios. We’re sure it has more up its sleeve that we just haven’t seen yet.
The automaton cat is out of the bag. Happy to say that ex-Volition formed Shapeshifter Games has been working with us on @ClockworkGame!
