According to new rumors and potential leaks, a remake of the RPG open-world classic Bethesda title, The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion, is in the works and is overhauling many of the mechanics from the original.
Reported by MP1st, the remake was said to be confirmed by an ex-employee from the studio, Virtuos, who worked on the game from 2023 – 2024. The former employee not only confirmed the existence of the remake but also let slip several details on gameplay changes.
The remake is reportedly using Unreal Engine 5 and declares the entire game is being “fully remade.” Through descriptions, the ex-employee also detailed that several systems are being reworked such as: Stamina, Sneak, Blocking, Archery, Hit Reaction, and the HUD. All of these systems are said to be improved using inspiration and lessons from current gaming trends and some systems, such as sneak damage calculations, are also being completely redone.
A remake of Oblivion has been on gamer radars since 2023 during the revealing lawsuit between the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) and Microsoft which was spawned as a result of Microsoft’s purchase of Call of Duty publisher Activision Blizzard. During the proceedings, a document was published (via IGN) detailing several unannounced titles in the works at Microsoft and Bethesda specifically, one of which included an Oblivion Remake alongside other games like an Indiana Jones game (which obviously turned out to be true and released last year), The Elder Scrolls 6 (another title that is known to exist), Dishonored 3, and a Fallout 3 Remaster.
Additionally, leaker NateTheHate, who previously leaked information regarding a Switch 2 announcement later this week, corroborated the story and went as far as to declare a June release for this supposed remake. All eyes now turn to Microsoft and Bethesda as Elder Scrolls fans, anxiously awaiting their next adventure in Tamriel, look for an announcement of just such a remake sometime in the future should the rumors ring true.
