Destroy All Humans developer Black Forest Games has reportedly slashed half of its employees under the demand of Embracer Group. This comes as mid-last year, it was unveiled that it is working on Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: The Last Ronin.
As reported by Kotaku, which spoke to anonymous sources, staff were informed of the layoffs at the mid-sized on Wednesday but were also told more info would come later in the week. It’s also speculated this is when some sort of official announcement will be made. Nonetheless, we’re sure we’ll hear about this quicker from slashed staff looking for new jobs.
We’re not even a full month into 2024, and the AAA game development space is certainly becoming an unstable place to be right now with nearly 4K layoffs at major studios, many of which are associated with Black Forest’s parent, Embracer, which has been at the forefront of these mass layoffs, especially last year. It isn’t clear if the TMNT: The Last Ronin has been affected by these layoffs, but considering we aren’t expecting this game for a few more years, we assume its development hasn’t been stunted for long, if at all.
