After two weeks filled with measly player numbers and poor sales, Concord will be taken offline as of September 6.
The announcement came via a PlayStation Blog post by Ryan Ellis – Game Director on Concord – where he explained that Firewalk Studios have ‘decided to take the game offline beginning September 6, 2024, and explore options, including those that will better reach our players.’ With this new development, it will be interesting to see how PlayStation handles Concord’s upcoming episode in the anthology series Secret Level. This could be the only thing left of Concord once everything is done and over with.
In addition to the game being taken offline, all sales of Concord will be ceasing immediately and refunds are being offered. Information on how you can obtain your refund can be found in the blog post.
While it’s disappointing news, hopefully, this will signal to developers and publishers that the live service model isn’t always the best game model. There have been too many games that have suffered from this type of monetization model. Concord is but the latest in the ever-growing graveyard of live service games, but here’s hoping it’s the last for a long time. This is extremely unfortunate for all of the staff at Firewalk Studios who worked on this game.
