Arachnophobia is without a doubt one of the most common phobias. There’s something about a spider’s spindly little legs and their furry bodies that give a lot of people the creeps. Game developers are very much aware of this as the number of games featuring spiders, or spider enemies, is absurd.
Game Science’s 2024 smash hit Black Myth: Wukong is one of these games. At one point the player faces a boss called the Violet Spider, who, after defeating her in the first wave, unleashes a cluster of spiders to chase you. It’s something that a lot of gamers would be put off by, but thanks to modder SnailSaber now you can instead be chased by PlayStation’s loveable new mascot.
The modder posted a video on his YouTube channel of the mod, aptly dubbed the “Arachnophobia” mod. The mod replaces those creepy crawlies with a swarm of adorable little Astro Bots. SnailSaber mentions in the videos description that he was inspired to make the mod after “watching the TGA (The Game Awards) as Astro Bot earning the Game of the Year title.”
This couldn’t come at a better time, as it was only a few weeks ago where Black Myth Wukong fans were disappointed that Team Asobi’s platformer took home the coveted Game of the Year award. Snail Saber has clarified via a Reddit post that they are a fan of both games and that the mod is only for self deprecating humour at the end of the day.
The mod is unfortunately not available for download, but you can check out SnailSaber’s other Black Myth: Wukong mod – where he swaps the spiders out for cockroaches – on his YouTube channel.
