Marvel’s Blade was announced during The Game Awards after a rumor spread that Arkane Studios’ next game would be revealed would with a short trailer that gave us no indicator of whether it’s gonna be exclusive or not. Considering the past games since Microsoft bought out ZeniMax have skewed exclusively to exclusives, we don’t have much hope, especially as Bethesda is declining to comment on platforms.
Hopping over the pond, the folks at VG247 have pointed out that the game is weirdly distant compared other games. Whereas you’d some writeup on Xbox Wire, all you have is a link back to Bethesda’s press release that makes no mention of platforms. This could be a case of exactly what Xbox boss Phil Spencer claimed big Bethesda games releasing on other platforms would be on a “case-by-case basis.” As it stands, no Bethesda games have made it to other platforms since the 2021 acquisition.
There are two possibilities we mulled over, though. One — it is coming to other consoles, but Microsoft doesn’t want to advertise that just yet. This one is more one we expect would be due to contractual obligations rather than Microsoft actually wanting to release on other platforms. Something like Marvel wants it to go on PlayStation because its “Marvel’s” line — Spider-Man, Spider-Man 2, and soon Wolverine — is all already on PlayStation and sells really well, and it just doesn’t want to risk making an Xbox exclusive when a lot of its audience is on PlayStation.
Two — it could be a reverse Deathloop and Ghostwire: Tokyo situation where it’ll remain an Xbox console exclusive — most likely a year — before being ported to PlayStation. This would also be likely a move on Marvel’s part, but it could be a means to satiate those who think it’s suspicious it hasn’t released any games to other platforms, even though Spencer has claimed this “case-by-case basis” exists.
Those right here, however, are mere speculations, as Marvel’s Blade will realistically release on Xbox and PC and remain a console exclusive if past Bethesda games are any indicator.
