Larian Studios’ Baldur’s Gate 3 has taken home the coveted Game of the Year award once again, this time from Steam itself. Unsurprisingly, Larian’s RPG managed to decimate its GOTY competition, topping many lists and posts about individual takes, as well as official award shows.
Steam is no exception to the award show bug, with it unveiling the winners of many of its fan-voted categories for its Steam Awards event. It stood above its peers, with Resident Evil 4, EA Sports FC 24, Lethal Company, and the ever-controversial Hogwarts Legacy padding out what could’ve been a tight match between BG3, Lethal Company, and Hogwarts Legacy. Of course, though, Larian’s title couldn’t be defeated.
Other winners across different categories included Red Dead Redemption 2 (Labor of Love Award), Sifu (Best Game You Suck At Award), Dave the Diver (Sit Back and Relax Award), Hogwarts Legacy (Best Game on Steam Deck), Starfield (Most Innovative Gameplay Award), Lethal Company (Better With Friends Award), and more. Interestingly, Baldur’s Gate 3 double-dipped and also won the Outstanding Story-Rich Game Award.
Frankly, this type of award show is a lot more user-focused than the likes of — say — The Game Awards, which melds together some user-voted categories with established figures and publications having a grander say.
