Rockstar Games was put in an unfavorable situation — its Grand Theft Auto 6 trailer leaked, and they dropped it early to keep some sort of order. Now, though, it’s already gone the route of confirming a release year with its debut trailer. Obviously, this could change as last year was more or less the year of delays and this one hasn’t been much better, but we’ll give Rockstar credit for exuding confidence.
The New York City-based developer revealed the game will be released in 2025, which granted, isn’t too far-fetched considering previous statements from Strauss Zelnick indicated to CNBC the company was gonna have a strong fiscal 2025, which ranges from April 2024 to March 2025. If we take the 2025 release year at face value we can assume it would be an early-in-the-year release. Considering GTA 4 saw a worldwide release in April 2008, it’s possible, but we’re more inclined to notice a pattern of late-in-the-year releases.
Quite frankly, we’d be shocked if Rockstar keeps the 2025 release unless the game is so far in development, which is also all-too-possible that it knows for certain that the game will be finished by then. It’s possible Rockstar is going to make Grand Theft Auto 6 an early-year launch, but what Zelnick could be alluding to at the time is more of a huge — perhaps gameplay — trailer or when pre-orders open up.
We’d hedge our bets that Rockstar is gonna wait until later in the year, perhaps October like was the case for GTA 5. Alternatively, it’s all too possible it will get delayed into 2026. Only time will tell, but in the meantime, why don’t we enjoy the debut trailer again?
