March is a short distance away, and like the last two months, there are a lot of new video games that are releasing. With a major console exclusive release and a sequel to a cult RPG, there is certainly something for everyone in March. Here are some of the titles that look to be standout hits.
The Outlast Trials
The Outlast Trials is coming to consoles, and with it comes a return to one absolutely terrifying series. The original Outlast game set off a new wave of horror games where the player has no way to fight back. Throughout the early-access period, The Outlast Trials has been regarded very popularly by users on Steam, with a “Very Positive” rating.
Players are able to create a character and customize it as they wish. With a support staff at the Murkoff Corporation who provide upgrades to the player and purchaseable customization options, there is no end to how you can shape your patient. While participating in the trials, players can earn currency to purchase customization items, giving each player the chance to be unique and play in their own style. Investigate, hide, and survive.
The Outlast Trials will be released on March 5, priced at $39.99.
Outcast – A New Beginning
After 20 years, it is time to return to Adelpha in Outcast – A New Beginning. The Yods have resurrected Cutter Slade, and the people he once helped, the Talans, have been enslaved. The world has been stripped of its resources and become hostile. The invading force, a mysterious group of robots, has connections to Cutter and his past. Return to Adelpha and help save the world.
With a recent remake that tested the waters for the series, the original team has returned to deliver a sequel. Outcast was a defining release and helped pave the way for the non-linear open-world genre. After the excellent remake, which introduced the series to a new generation and allowed others to revisit the past, this sequel is shaping up to make waves in the industry.
Outcast – A New Beginning will be released on March 15, priced at $69.99.
Alone in the Dark
With failure after failure, the Alone in the Dark series has suffered. But, with a hopeful reimagining of the game that started the series, this new entry is looking to be quite different from previous titles. A return to the beginning, with dual protagonists Edward Carnby and Emily Hartwood, embraces the psychological horror that Alone in the Dark is known for. The tone, setting, and characters all seem right, and with an excellent voice cast, this entry is looking to breathe new life into the series.
Alone in the Dark did have a prologue demo release, which garnered some new attention to the game and left players excited about where the game could go with the full release. Get ready to dive into Derceto Manor and uncover the truth.
Alone in the Dark will be released on March 20, priced at $59.99.
Dragon’s Dogma 2
It’s time to return to one of the most innovative RPG series with the next entry of Dragon’s Dogma. The original game featured decent graphics piled onto an intuitive combat system. Being able to mount and climb over large enemies immediately set Dragon’s Dogma apart from the rest of the RPGs that came out around it. The online “multiplayer” system was also uniquely different — instead of simply helping someone, players could create a side character titled “pawn.” Pawns were able to be hired by other players and help them complete missions, netting players rewards.Â
With a polished world, an expanded combat system, and the promise of bigger and better creatures, Dragon’s Dogma 2 is looking to be a solid sequel to a cult hit from the PlayStation 3 era.
Dragon’s Dogma 2 will be released on March 22, priced at $69.99.
Rise of the Ronin
Rise of the Ronin is set to explore the end of the Edo period in the late 19th century. Get ready to experience the Boshin War between the Shogunate and enemies of Western influence in Japan.
Dive into the heart of the Boshin War with a character that you get to create. You will have choices to make, allowing you to side with various characters and factions and directly influence the story. With a recent showing at PlayStation’s State of Play, we got a better idea of how the game will play. Exciting traversal mechanics took center stage at this showing by featuring a glider, grappling hook, and horses. Being able to traverse the map with different means is quite exciting, and the combat also looks promising.
Rise of the Ronin looks to be a promising hit, with developer Team Ninja clearly drawing from previous games like Nioh and Ninja Gaiden. Given that it is launching on the same day as Dragon’s Dogma 2, it looks like Team Ninja is very confident in their game. I count that as good news.
Rise of the Ronin will be released on March 22, priced at $69.99.
