It seems that Helldivers 2 is being review bombed on Steam after a controversial announcement by publisher Sony Interactive Entertainment.
As announced just yesterday on Steam, players must link to a PlayStation Network account in the near future. This change will take effect for new players on May 6 and current players starting May 30. Players have a grace period until June 4, but after that point, it will be forced.
Following this announcement, the game dropped to a “mixed” rating on Steam from its long-standing “Very Good” rating. The CEO of developer Arrowhead noticed and apologized on Twitter.
Users note the very turbulent history of Sony’s PlayStation Network, as it has experienced a multitude of hacks over the years. This has included millions of its users payment methods being leaked. Others note it as corporate greed, given that Sony does “share” its users information. According to Sony, it will help to provide a safe and secure experience so it can protect its users. Also, of note, not everywhere in the world has PSN access.
It will be curious to see if players stop playing the game if this choice doesn’t get reverted. But, for what it is, Helldivers 2 is a fantastic game, earning even a nine out of ten from our own James Kub. With a score like that and the previous reception surrounding the game, hopefully, it will be able to bounce back.
