After an exciting night, the 2024 Summer Game Fest showcase has come to an end. The event brought a lot of information on already-announced games and even offered some interesting reveals. Let’s quickly dive into everything shown at Summer Game Fest 2024.
Lego Horizon Adventures coming to PlayStation 5, PC, and Nintendo Switch
An interesting crossover brings the robotic dinosaur fun to a Lego format, making one of PlayStation’s major titles appealing to a broader audience. With more family-friendly fun comes cooperative play via online or couch co-op play. There are also bounds of customization available for the game via outfits and town customization. Best yet, PC players won’t have to wait as this title is coming to both Steam and Epic Games Store on day one. Lego Horizon Adventures will also be available on Nintendo Switch on day one. The game is coming “Holiday” 2024.
Quidditch Champions launches in September
Dive back into the wizarding world with Harry Potter: Quidditch Champions when it launches on PC via Steam, Epic Games Store, Nintendo Switch, Xbox, and PlayStation on September 3, 2024. The game has also been confirmed to be a day-one title on PlayStation Plus.
There is still No More Room in Hell, with a sequel coming this Halloween
The blood and gore that Torn Banner Studios is known for is coming back with this sequel. Eight players have to join forces in this co-op game where every action has a consequence. The zombies will stop at nothing to take you down, and there is no coming back from the undead horde because when you die, you stay dead. The trailer also teases an open world with massive replayability. No More Room in Hell 2 is entering Early Access this Halloween.
Star Wars Outlaws teases more to come at Ubisoft Forward
Ubisoft delivered a more detailed look at previously revealed and new locations set in the Star Wars universe, teasing even more to come at its Ubisoft Forward event that is happening on June 10 at 12 PM PDT | 9 PM CEST. Star Wars Outlaws is set to release on August 30.
Civilization VII is coming next year
With nothing to show when it comes to gameplay, Civilization VII at least gave us a taste of what’s to come. With the exciting confirmation that the game will be released on consoles and PC in 2025, and there will be a gameplay showcase at some point in August.
Dragon Ball: Sparking! Zero finally has a release date and it’s in October
Fans of the Budokai Tenkaichi series can rest easy knowing that Dragon Ball: Sparking! Zero is coming soon; in fact, the game will be releasing on October 11. Sparking! Zero will be coming to PC via Steam, PS5, and Xbox Series X|S. With the newest trailer, we also got a look at the pre-order bonuses for the game, which include six early unlocks and a mysterious playable character.
Batman: Arkham Shadow unveils the Rat King
Become a young Batman that has to deal with the likes of Ratcatcher, The Rat King, Scarecrow and more in a story that takes place after the conclusion of Batman: Arkham Origins. The next entry into the Arkhamverse is releasing later this year in the fall as a Meta Quest 3-exclusive. The trailer has a host of Easter Eggs for avid Batman fans and surely the game will have even more to offer.
Street Fighter 6 see’s the return of M. Bison and a Fatal Fury crossover
Year 2 of Street Fighter 6 will see the return of the legendary antagonist M. Bison as well as the addition of Terry, Elena, and Mai from Fatal Fury. The content will become available throughout the remainder of this year ranging from Summer 2024 to Winter 2025.
Blumhouse Games brings a host of horror inspired titles to the table
The studio that has made a name for itself from it’s vast catalogue of fantastic horror movies, including Five Nights at Freddy’s, is looking to break into the medium of video games. This introduction into video games for the studio was made with multiple announcements including Fear the Spotlight, Grave Seasons, Sleep Awake, Crisol Theater of Idols, and even more on the way. Maybe they will get the chance to return the favor and publish a new Five Nights at Freddy’s game.
The Power Rangers are getting a new multi-genre game
Power Rangers: Rita’s Rewind is a return to the old-school-style beat-em-up game while also combining first-person shooter and racing activites as well. As of right now the game is available to wishlist on Steam.
MECHA Break is hosting a beta test in August
The flashy mecha game has set a beta test for August without confirming a date. If some of these mechs look familiar it may be because Takayuki Yanase (Metal Gear, Gundam, Armored Core) and Junya Ishigaki (Xenogears, Gundam) have both provide their knowledge and talents to help design some of the games mechs. The game features fast-paced aerial and ground combat and shows promising amounts of polish.
The First Descendant is coming soon!
The highly anticipated sci-fi shooter from Nexon got a release date, and it is coming very very soon. In fact the game will be launching on July 2, is free-to-play and will be on PlayStation consoles, Xbox consoles, and PC via Steam. The trailer also highlighted the gorgeous visuals and intense exo-suit action.
Alan Wake 2 is getting DLC on June 8
The Night Springs DLC features three episodes, three playable characters and is availble very soon. Notably one of these characters is Jesse from Control further connecting the two video game universes after easter eggs from both games established the ties. There was also an announcement that Alan Wake 2 will recieve a Deluxe and Collectors physical edition releases with pre-orders also available on June 8.
Skate is still being worked on, but playtests are coming to consoles
With pre-pre-alpha gameplay being shown, the team behind the revival of the classic skating series is certainly taking things slow to try and make the best game they can, which is refreshing with the state of some recent releases. The game is looking to make a bunny hop to consoles for playtesting later this year in the fall, and registrations are open now.
Valorant is arriving on consoles…before League of Legends
The competitve team shooter Valorant is making the jump to consoles, with a beta test set for June 14. The full launch date is currently unknown, but the team-based hero shooter will be releasing on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S later this year.
Outersloth and Among Us TV show
Luckily the traitor didn’t intervene in the announcement from Among Us developer Innersloth as they revealed an indie game fund and also a quick look at the upcoming animated Among Us show. The Outersloth Indie Fund has already been hard at work funding projects including Mars First Logistics, One BTN Bosses, Project Dosa, and even more. It appears that they have already been hard at work helping other indie developers realize their goals.
Dune: Awakening reveals a story trailer featuring Paul Atreides
With a monologue about the past, future, and diverted timelines Funcom sets up it’s fearsome vision of Paul Atreides. Dune: Awakening will make another appearance at Gamescom in August and also host a Dune direct on June 20. The game is expected to launch on PC via Steam, PS5, and Xbox Series X|S.
Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 offers Henry a second chance
While violent battles may take the forefront of the medieval game, there is comedy sprinkled in as shown off in the trailer. Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 is still expected to release in 2024 but has no set release date as of right now. The game is set to launch on PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X|S.
Slitterhead is set to launch in November
Body swapping is at the forefront of the next title from Silent Hill creator Keiichiro Toyama, as the trailer reveals that this will be an important means of transportation and combat in it’s world. The nightmarish creatures look to be terrorizing the game world, as the main gameplay looks to be more action packed than previously expected. Slitterhead is set to launch on November 8, 2024 for PC via Steam and Epic Games Store, Xbox Series X|S, and PlayStation consoles.
Delta Force: Hawk Ops set to launch alpha in July
The grounded military shooter is set to host an alpha test on PC in July, coming to other platforms farther down the road. Also on display was it’s premium story content recreating Delta Force: Black Hawk Down with stunning visuals.
Killer Bean is back and the game is entering Early Access soon
The humorus bean is back, bringing over-the-top gameplay and cutscenes with it. The trailer showcases unique moments inspired by it’s creators history with the Matrix franchise, including slow motion breakdancing in the middle of a gunfight. Killer Bean is set to enter Early Access sometime during the Summer of this year.
Wanderstop leaves players guessing
A new game from the creator of the unique Stanley Parable, Wanderstop looked to be a promising cozy tea game until the final moments of the trailer. When the character sits down to relax she seem’s to be flooded with negative thought’s until she is awoken by the already lovable Boro. This game looks to bring the unique charm of David Wreden and leave players guessing to what is truly going on. Wanderstop is set to release later this year on PS5 and PC via Steam.
New World: Aeternum is an upgraded version of New World and is releasing in October
What is essentially an upgraded version of the current iteration of New World, Aeternum will include all previously released content as well as a host of new content. This includes a massive PvP zone, new end-game content, and changes to make the game more solo player friendly. New World: Aeterunm will be releasing on PS5, PC, and Xbox Series X|S on October 15.
Palworld is getting new Pals and a new Island
The Pokemon-like is getting a massive new update with new Pals, a new raid, island, higher level cap, and dedicated Xbox servers. This update is releasing on June 27.
Monster Hunter Wilds can be enjoyed with friends that play anywhere
While the new entry into the series won’t be supporting cross-progression, players can rest assured that it will be supporting crossplay on all platforms. The trailer revealed some stunning cinematics in the game’s desert with some monster fighting and reafirmed that it will be releasing in 2025.
Kunitsu-Gami: Path of the Goddess is releasing in July
While PlayStation Plus players are gaining access to Harry Potter: Quiditch Champions on day one, Xbox Game Pass subscribers will be getting Kunitsu-Gami: Path of the Goddess on day one. Capcom continued with it’s impressive reveals cementing that this game will be releasing July 19 for PlayStation consoles, Xbox consoles, and PC.
Phantom Blade Zero reveals intense action and in-person demo
To mark the end of Summer Game Fest’s main showcase Phantom Blade Zero was shown. With a look at some of the weapons that can be wielded by players and a peak at some of the intense action sequences players will find themselves in, this game looks to leave it’s mark on the industry. For people lucky enough to attend Summer Game Fest in person there is a demo that is available, the demo will also be available at ChinaJoy in July, Gamescom in August, and Tokyo Games Show in September. There is still no release date, but this may change throughout the other mentioned events.
