Concord will require a PSN account for players on PC, which we doubt is a surprise to anyone. Basically all of PlayStation’s PC library requires an account, even single player experiences.
While a Steam page has yet to appear, Dealabs‘ reliable resident PlayStation leaker, billbil-kun, writes (via Insider Gaming) that PSN linking will be required. Of course this doesn’t come as a surprise, but it is disappointing nonetheless as this does mean the game will be unavailable in 177 different countries, including some big spenders in the gaming market.
Admittedly, the game hasn’t garnered the strongest response, but the tide could’ve changed in different markets, but slashing nearly 200 potential markets is shooting itself in the foot before it’s even had its beta, which is set for July.
As a reminder, the inclusion of PSN linking in Helldivers 2 (as a post-launch requirement) faced the ire of the internet so hard that it was backtracked shortly after it was announced. Meanwhile, the recently released Ghost of Tsushima also requires PSN linking at its core to the point platforms issued refunds to those who bought the game who weren’t in the countries with PSN.
It’s basically artificially bottlenecking its PC success with this requirement. God of War Ragnarok also requires PSN linking, despite it being even more of a single player experience than Ghost of Tsushima, which at least had an online mode to — albeit poorly — excuse its requirement.
