MultiVersus just re-released to the public after delisting itself after its public beta ended. Now its re-release, fans have taken to bombarding it with criticisms over deleted features and feeling “more like a beta than the beta.”
Curated by IGN, Reddit users started calling out the differences, like the lack team color options and just how zoomed in the camera is. While the free-to-play fighter is far from a failure, it isn’t a bad thing to point out the glaring flaws and stark changes to the game. Others pointed out how there isn’t a smooth transition between and after matches, just popping in on the screen and nixing offline play.
Microtransactions were always rooted into the fighter, but even that is getting more scrutiny than its public beta, which launched with a Battle Pass and shop. While the beta let you test characters out before going all in and purchasing them, you can’t do that with the full release, plus it also lacks a co-op PvE mode, leaderboard, and even an after battle report.
We get that MultiVersus is still early in its life, but considering it had a good chunk of time in public beta, we’d hope that it would improve upon the release. Instead, it seems like Warner Bros. and Player First Games thought the game’s dying player base was because of the options that were axed when it’s really just a natural course for most any free-to-play Smash clone; it gets popular then it tapers off.
